Description

If you only have one day in Rome and want to see the highlights of the Eternal City, this is the perfect tour for you! Our tour begins at the Colosseum. You will circumvent the queues as your guide will take you directly to the interior seating levels where you can marvel at one of the largest and most well preserved amphitheatres from A.D. c. 75-80. Outside the Colosseum you will see the Arch of Constantine which was built in 315 A.D. to celebrate Constantine’s victory over Maxentius in 312 A.D.

We then continue towards the Forum, the central square of Ancient Rome. You will stop by the Arch of Titus, the House of the Vestal Virgins, the Temple of Saturn, the Senate House, the Arch of Septimius Severus, and following the Sacred Way you will reach Capitol Hill. At its feet lies the Vittoriano, the greatest marble monument of modern Italy, built to celebrate the country's unification by its King Victor Emmanuel II.

From here a short walk bring us to the ruins of an Ancient Roman Aqueduct. We follow the path of the aqueduct and emerge at the Trevi fountain, the most magnificent fountain in Rome and perhaps the world, created by Niccolò Salvi in 1735. Be sure to bring a coin to throw into the fountain to ensure you return to Rome!

Time for a lunch break! Your guide will suggest some excellent places where you can get a sandwich, an authentic pizza or even a three-course meal. After lunch we set off again to visit the Government district with the two main buildings of the Italian Republic; the Parliament and the Palace of the Council of Ministers. In front of the palace stands an original II century masterpiece of Roman art, the marble Column of Marcus Aurelius.

A further short walk brings us to the Temple of Hadrian, built by the Emperor Antoninus Pius in honour of his predecessor. The local Chamber of Commerce is now housed behind the temple’s marble columns. A walk down a narrow, charming street brings us to the Pantheon, the most well preserved temple of Ancient Rome which houses the Tomb of the painter Raphael.

We cross by the Ancient Baths of Nero and arrive at Piazza Navona, the Ancient Stadium built by the Emperor Domitian. Decorated by Bernini and other XVI century masters this beautiful piazza has a number of churches and fountains, including the magnificent Fountain of the Four Rivers. We then cross the River Tiber to Vatican City. The final part of the tour is dedicated to an exclusive visit to the Vatican Museums and St Peter’s Basilica. No waiting in line – your VIP guided tour takes you The Sistine Chapel to see Michelangelo’s famous artwork and then to the Popes’ apartments to see Raphael’s frescoes.

This comprehensive private guided tour allows you to visit all the “must see” sites of Rome with no queues, no stress. The best way to see Rome in a day!
